Rachel Lauter is an accomplished organizational leader, political strategist, and attorney. She has held significant leadership roles in both non-profits and government.

Rachel served as the Managing Director and General Counsel of WorkMoney, a non-profit startup focused on lowering costs and raising incomes for working Americans. During her tenure, she led the organization’s day-to-day operations, expanded its size nearly threefold, and managed its legal affairs, including the incorporation of a for-profit subsidiary. She also directed a national political program in 2022 that educated members on which elected officials supported their financial interests.

Before her work at WorkMoney, Rachel was the Executive Director of Working Washington/Fair Work Center, a Seattle-based workers' rights organization. Under her leadership, the organization became a national leader in worker advocacy, achieving significant victories such as first-in-the-nation pay standards, paid sick leave, and hazard pay for app-based delivery drivers in Seattle. The organization also successfully campaigned for a domestic worker bill of rights and expansive overtime protections in Washington State.

Earlier in her career, Rachel was the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Appointments for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. In this role, she served as the Mayor’s senior personnel advisor, managing hundreds of appointments and assembling the most diverse leadership team in the city’s history. She also oversaw several mayoral offices and was involved in drafting and negotiating numerous local laws. Prior to this, Rachel was an Assistant Counsel to Governor Andrew Cuomo and served as a law clerk to federal judge Paul G. Gardephe of the Southern District of New York.

Rachel co-founded the political organization New Kings Democrats in Brooklyn. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where she was President of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
